1. How long are oversize permits valid for in Oklahoma?
Single-trip permits are valid for five consecutive days.
2. What are the legal dimensions for loads in Oklahoma?
The legal limits in Oklahoma are as follows:
- Gross weight*: 80,000 lbs. on designated highways and 90,000 lbs. on all other roads (federal bridge formula applies)
- Width: 8’6” on all roads
- Height: 13’6” on all roads; 14’6” for autotransporters
- Length: 45’ for single units and buses on all roads; 59’6” for semi-trailers on designated highways (53’ on all other roads); 53’ for twins/doubles on designated highways only (not allowed on other roads); 70’ for autotransporters on all roads; Rocky Mountain doubles and turnpike doubles not allowed on any roads; 29’ trailers for triples** on designated highways (not allowed on other roads); 75’ for three-unit saddlemounts on all roads
*For vehicles registered above 80,000 lbs., a permit may be granted to operate at a gross weight of 90,000 lbs. on the interstate.
**Must have a special permit. The company has to contact the office for rules and regulations. A permit is required for each truck tractor and must be carried in the cab. The annual fee is $240.
3. What are the permit limits for loads in Oklahoma?
The routine-issue permit limits in Oklahoma are as follows:

Must be registered for 90,000 lbs. or the least amount of weight carried. The maximum weight that the state allows you to register on your IRP cab card is 90,000 lbs. Contact your IRP base state to increase your weight.
SASHTO permit limits: 100’ long, 14’ wide, 14’ high, 120,000 lbs.
4. Is continuous travel allowed for oversize permits in Oklahoma?
Travel is permitted half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset seven days a week.
Oversize movement on interstate highways through Cleveland, Oklahoma and Tulsa counties is not permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Travel is prohibited on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
5. When are escorts needed in Oklahoma?
On two-lane highways:
- One front escort is needed for widths of 12’–14’.
- One front and one rear escort (two in total) are needed for widths over 14’.
- One front escort is needed for lengths over 80’.
- One front and one rear escort (two in total) are needed for lengths over 100’.
- One front (with height pole) and one rear escort (two in total) are needed for heights over 15’9”, and the driver must contact all public utilities and railroads along the route in advance of the move.
On multi-lane highways:
- One rear escort is needed for widths of 12’–16’.
- One front and one rear escort (two in total) are needed for widths over 16’.
- One front (with height pole) and one rear escort (two in total) are needed for heights over 15’9”, and the driver must contact all public utilities and railroads along the route in advance of the move.
6. What is a superload in Oklahoma?
Loads in excess of 185,000 lbs. must obtain route approval from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Bridge Division. Please submit your request five days in advance to: ATTN: Grossman & Keith. Information should include the number of axles, spacings, weight on axle and groups of axles. Diagrams are required on loads over 180,000 lbs.
If the item being hauled is newly manufactured and 16’ wide, there will be a $500 special handling fee added to the permit cost.
